Notes on 2026 Changes:
- 15U changing to 14U & 18U - Multiple requests were made to provide opportunities for our older players to continue to play. When evaluating 2024 and 2025 registration, it was found the only realistic way to support this was if the 15 year old cohort (10th grade) were to join with 18U. Unfortunately, this does mean a likely reduction in number of teams in 14U so some teams may have their players have to re-enter the draft.
If this split does not support full 14U & 18U divisions, then we will revert back to a single 15U division and refund the fees of the players unable to play. If this occurs, volunteer coaches will be contacted to provide additional comment for the 15U division they would then be in.
- New Age Cutoffs - This year changed to be based on school grade (Sep 1). Prior years, the division was based on calendar year. The change aligns with USA Softball and USSSA Softball as well as other programs in Utah. For example, the change allows players that were teammates or opponents in the spring season that ends in July in other cities, such as Saratoga Springs, to once again be competing in the same division. For our oldest group, it also removes the calendar year cutoff. Previously 10th graders in 15U could play if their birthday was before Dec 31, but their classmates with birthdays after Jan 1 were not eligible to play.
The new age cutoff does not breakup teams. Every one that was returning to a division would still be returning to the division. The change is that the oldest players that would now would have previously auto moved up to the higher division will now by default remain with their classmates and return. We allow players to play up a year as desired, so anyone that still wants to move up, as they would have previously, will have that option.
- 8U is coach pitch which aligns with other programs in Utah. This is to maximize hitting and fielding development. A hybrid coach/kid pitch is being considered to still provide some pitching skill development.
- If there are any questions, concerns, or other feedback on these changes, please contact Chris Ruoti (cruoti@gmail.com)
Team Selection
- 8U - Teams will be created based on geography. Team member requests will be accepted (add in registration comment)
- 10U - 18U - Teams will be selected based on tryouts and a draft. Team member requests not permitted.
Tryout & Draft Process
- Required Tryout and Draft for players entering a new division
- Tryouts will include evaluations of the fundamentals (hitting, fielding, pitching, etc.)
- Siblings are required to be drafted together
- Those that do not come to tryouts will be randomly assigned a team
A player should not come to Tryouts in the following scenarios:
- A player returning to the same division - you will stay on last year's team
- A player entering the same division as a sibling currently on a team - you will be assigned to be on the same team
- A player whose parent is a coach - you are on your parent's team
Registering as a Volunteer Coach
Our program is made possible by our volunteer coaches. Please consider volunteering as a Coach (Head Coach) or Assistant Coach.
- "Coach" in the registration process refers to Head Coach
- We will ensure each team has a Head Coach assigned (given we have enough head coach volunteers, otherwise Assistant Coaches will be asked to be a Head Coach)
- Coaches are able to request to coach with someone else in the registration comments and we will fulfill as possible (it is best when both request each other)
- Returning coaching staffs need to register again
Key Dates
- Registration: June 2 - June 30
- Tryouts & Team Draft: July (date TBD)
- Season Start: Aug 18
